Beochaoineadh - An “elegy for the living”— a sad lament for someone who has gone away, but who has not died. Beochaoineadh is pronounced “byoh-kwee-new”. And etymologically, its origins lie in the Irish beo, meaning “alive”, and caoineadh, meaning “lamentation” or “weeping”. A solo piano composition inspired by the rugged, bleak but beautiful mountains along the Beara Peninsula in the South West of Ireland. My music has always been heavily influenced by the environment around me, I feel particularly inspired and creative when I am out in the wilds. It is why I often capture a lot of this time by taking photos/footage and writing down ideas. Though it is a quiet break, meant as a time of relaxation from my routines and responsibilities back at home, the space is available to delve and develop.
